Who is Eligible to Vote?
Any person who on Election Day meets the following qualifications is eligible to vote:
Is a Canadian Citizen
Is at least 18 years old on Election Day
Resides in the City of Kingston or is an owner/tenant of property in the City of Kingston
Is the spouse/partner of an owner of tenant in the City of Kingston
Any person not prohibited by law from voting
Is my name on the Voters’ List?
You can check online to see if you are on the Voters’ List by clicking on the following link: www.cityofkingston.ca/vote.
You can also check the Voters’ List at City Hall (216 Ontario Street) or at the municipal office at 1211 John Counter Boulevard.
If you are not on the Voters’ List, you must complete an Application to Amend Voters List to be added to the Voters’ List. You can access this form at www.cityofkingston.ca/vote, but you must submit this form to the Elections Office at City Hall (216 Ontario Street). Please bring photo ID (e.g. Ontario driver’s license) and proof of residency or ownership in Kingston (if your ID does not include this information).
Where do I vote?
A Voter Information Notice will have been sent to those voters on the Voters List as of September 21, 2018. The Notice will state the location of the Advance Poll (October 13, 2018), as well as your assigned voting location on Election Day (October 22, 2018). If you did not receive this Voter Information Notice in the mail, you may not be on the Voters List. Please refer to the information above about confirming your name on the Voters List.

If you moved prior to voting day, you must vote at your new address. Please check online at www.cityofkingston.ca/vote to confirm your current address. If this is incorrect, please visit the
Election Office at City Hall, email them at elections@cityofkingston.ca, or call them at 613-546-4291 ext.1430 for more information.
A student may vote in both their home municipality and the City of Kingston in this year’s election. However, they must be on the Voters List in Kingston to be eligible to vote here. Please review the information paragraph Is my name on the Voters’ List to confirm you are eligible to vote in Kingston. For residents of Loyalist-Cataraqui District, the polling locations are the following:
Advance Poll location:
Cataraqui Woods Public School, 1255 Birchwood Drive
Election Day locations:
Christ Church Cataraqui, 990 Sydenham Road
INVISTA Centre, 1350 Gardiners Road
Waterford Kingston Retirement Residence, 463-471 Cataraqui Woods Drive, Crafts Room (retirement home residents only)
Can someone vote on my behalf?
If you are unable to attend a voting location on any of the dates set for voting, you may appoint someone to act as your Proxy. This allows you to appoint another eligible elector to attend the voting location and cast your ballot on your behalf. The deadline for proxy registration is 5:00 p.m. on Election Day, October 22, 2018.
In order to appoint a Proxy, you must first obtain an appointment form from the Elections Office. If you would like to vote by proxy, please call our Campaign Hotline at 613-766-7317 or email the campaign at bittu@bittugeorge.ca.
Can I vote online?
The City of Kingston also has an online voting option. You must register for online voting using your Voter Identification Number (VIN) at www.cityofkingston/vote. The VIN will be found on the Voter Information Notice you received in the mail. Follow the instructions, and once you have registered, a username and password will be generated. This information will be emailed to you along with your directions for voting. You must be registered for online voting by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day (October 22, 2018). If you did not receive a Voter Information Notice in the mail, please refer to the paragraph Is my name on the Voters’ List.
You may vote online from 10:00 a.m. on October 13, 2018 to 8:00 p.m. on October 22, 2018.
Voting Hours?
The hours for voting at the Advance Poll on Saturday October 13, 2018 is 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The hours for voting on Election Day (Monday October 22, 2018) is 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
For Waterford Kingston Retirement Home residents, voting hours on Election Day are 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Casting your vote is as easy as 1-2-3
The City of Kingston uses composite ballots and automated vote tabulators for its municipal election.
When you enter the voting location, proceed to the appropriate table. The Poll Clerk will give you a secrecy folder and a blank ballot. Take these to the voting booth and remove the ballot from the folder.
Mark your ballot by filling in the oval beside the candidate of your choice (i.e. Bittu George), using the pen provided. Put your marked ballot back into the folder.
Return the folder with the ballot inside to the election officer who will place the ballot in the voter tabulator in your presence.
